Self-regulation strategies for students with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in a primary classroom
Subject
Abstract
Self-regulation is the ability to control or direct one’s attention, thoughts, emotions, and behaviour. Students who can self-regulate are more engaged in school, have increased academic success, and more positive relationships. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is the most common neurodevelopmental disorder of childhood, affecting 3-5% of school-aged children. Children with ADHD struggle with executive functioning skills, including self-regulation. The goal of this applied project is to provide the information and strategies for teachers required to effectively support the development of self-regulation skills in students with ADHD.
