Abstract
Audio recording and transcript of Pamela Mar reading excerpts from a variety of sources about the history of Vancouver Island and British Columbia. Mar first reads passages from Edgar Fawcett's book "Some Reminiscences of Old Victoria" (Toronto: William Briggs, 1912) which focus on Christmas in Victoria and the history of the Beaver, which was the first steamship to operate on the Northwest Coast of North America. She then reads multiple passages from Duncan George Forbes Macdonald's book "British Columbia and Vancouver's Island" (London: Longman, Green, Longman, Roberts & Green; London: Spottiswoode and Co., 1862), which deal with immigration to British Columbia in the 1850s. The costs of different forms of passage and the recommended supplies are discussed.
