The group is made up of two married couples: Jean and William Wheeler and Sam and Margaret Cameron, and was conducted by Joy Leach. Jean Wheeler and Margaret Cameron are the primary speakers in the interview, and they share memories and stories about growing up and living in Bevan and Cumberland while their fathers worked as coal miners. Sam Cameron, who is Jean Wheeler's brother, talks about his job in the Cumberland coal mines. William Wheeler, who is identified as M #2 in the transcript, also worked as a miner for 16 years. Throughout the interview the group reflects on family life, social activities, the Vancouver Island Coal Miners' Strike, and Ginger Goodwin.
