Abstract
Audio recording and transcript of Rev. Tom Johnstone and Laura Johnstone's 1979 interview with Myrtle Bergren for the Coal Tyee History Project. The Johnstone siblings share memories of growing up in both South Wellington and Nanaimo, where their father was a coal miner. They reflect on their family's involvement in church life and they also share their opinions on the family-oriented nature of the Nanaimo community. Tom Johnstone describes how he entered the ministry after a short stint in the Reserve Mine and how he later went on to have a long career serving as a Pentecostal pastor and establishing churches in various places. Laura Johnstone describes her experience attending Normal School in Victoria and becoming a school teacher.
