Abstract
Audio recording and transcript of George Edwards's 1983 interview with Lynne Bowen for the Coal Tyee History Project. Edwards describes several coal mining operations in the Nanaimo area including the Wellington Colliery and the Northfield and Brechin Mines. He gives information about how mules, ventilation, and various lamps were used in the mines. He also shares a version of the story of how Robert Dunsmuir discovered coal at Wellington. Throughout the interview, Edwards relates his family history, sharing how he grew up with his maternal grandparents, the Drew family. At the end of the interview, his wife, Mary Edwards, talks about her family's history in the Rock City area of Nanaimo.
