Abstract

Audio recording and transcript of Dominic Armanasco's 1979 interview with Myrtle Bergren for the Coal Tyee History Project. Armanasco describes his emigration from Italy to Vancouver Island, where he joined members of his extended family to work in the coal mines. He explains how he got a job in the Extension Mine and his memories of working there. Armanasco tells the story of how his uncle, Johnny Senini, survived the flooding of the Beban Mine in 1937. Delfina Senini, who is identified in the transcript as "Mrs. S", is also present at the interview. Senini, whom Amanansco boarded with when he worked in the mine, shares her perspective of being a homemaker during the coal mining period. Hjalmar Bergren, Myrtle Bergren's husband, also contributes to the interview.
