Abstract
Audio recording and transcript of Joseph White's 1983 interview with Lynne Bowen for the Coal Tyee History Project. White shares the story of how his parents came to live in Wellington. He talks about how his father was injured in the mines and afterwards operated a small store in Extension. After his father died, the family moved to Scotland, but they eventually returned to Vancouver Island. White reflects on his memories of the Wellington townsite and he also explains how the Loudens, who were related to the Whites, moved into the Dunsmuir house in Wellington. White also talks about the small mining operation of his cousin, Bill Louden. White's union involvement and political leanings are also discussed.
