Abstract

The paper reviews the process of designing a picture book as a learning aid to reinforce early learners’ emotional knowledge, and its benefits in the cognitive and social abilities. Schools facilitate the learning of the emotional exploration by offering a secure environment for exploring feelings and practicing emotional skills within inclusive settings. This applied project is a great bibliotherapy strategy tool that unfolds a story that depicts three steps to enhance such knowledge: acceptance of feelings, by having the characters to make a pause to self-reflect, and then connect with emotions; awareness of bodily sensations, by comparing temperatures in nature with physical reactions; and emotion’s purpose, by stating that feelings are humans’ attributes that hold valuable messages. A “Guidelines for Readers” is also included to help educators use this tool, but the addition of practical resources it is highly recommended. Likewise, it is highly recommended by this project that educators train on emotional regulation skills to ensure their own wellbeing and consequently their students’ wellbeing.
