Item Concussions (mTBI) produce difference experiences among autistic and non-autistic Individuals(Electronic version published by Vancouver Island University, 2025) Slattery, AmandaEve; O'Neill, MelanieResearch surrounding mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI; concussion) and autism is severely lacking, especially for adults. However, this information is highly relevant for clinical recommendations and quality of life for this demographic of patients. This project is important to further the stream of concussion research because evaluation, recommendations, and treatment for concussion is currently based on research with non-autistic individuals. However, the current recommendations may not meet the emotional, cognitive, and/or physical needs of autistic individuals. Understanding the different outcomes for autistic individuals who experience concussions can help with screening, treatment, and support to help improve quality of life, autonomy, competency, and mental health among autistic concussion survivors.Item Gender-sexuality alliances belong in universities: Increasing belongingness and outness can reduce the effects of anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder on depression in Canadian university students(Electronic version published by Vancouver Island University, 2025) Slattery, AmandaEve; Shinbine, Danielle; O'Neill, MelanieLesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA+) individuals face increased risk of discrimination based on their gender identity and/or sexual orientation compared to their cisgender heteronormative peers.
