Name index of the births, marriages, deaths published in the Nanaimo Free Press, April 1874 to December 1899

For over a year. several members of the Nanaimo Family History Society worked diligently for many hours at the microfilm readers in Malaspina College, extracting notices of births, marriages, and deaths that were published in the Nanaimo Free Press. It should be said, however, that the failure to find an event should not be construed to mean that the particular event did not take place. The evidence seems to suggest that publication of births, marriages, and deaths was perhaps, at best, a hit and miss affair. One must realize that errors and omissions may have slipped in at the time of reporting, and during the compilation of this index. We have tried to do our best. The following is an alphabetical index of those entries which we were able to read, for the period 1874 to 1899. The index is in four sections: Births by parents names; Marriages by brides names; Marriages by grooms names; Deaths. The date shown in each case is the date of publication, rather than the date of the event. This will allow the reader to refer to the appropriate copy of the Nanaimo Free Press. and so view the full entry and obtain. in many instances, all the details therein.
