Michael Young is a criminologist interested in justice from several perspectives: criminal, social and global. He is co-program head of the Justice Studies program. His past research includes youth gangs, euthanasia and corrections. His current research interests include the linkages between homelessness, mental disorder, substance abuse and crime. Related to this, his research has expanded to societal reaction to community-based program initiatives developed to serve marginalized populations and the use of action research methods to promote policy and program development. At the applied level, his research includes involvement in the development of a therapeutic community for homeless people in Victoria and training for those working in the community context.
